Cosmic Soup Games #2: Pivoting to a different game
or: sometimes you were mistaken about the thing you should be making.

So. It’s been a while.
You may even have forgotten that you received an email from this newsletter! It was back in February of last year, introducing and talking briefly about a game we were working on. Something called VISUALISER, a sci-fi detective game. But due to a whole host of things that I’ll talk about some other time, we decided that we needed to put VISUALISER on ice for a while. Postpone it, rethink it some other time. Then, we got caught up with a few things… some children were born… we jumped from project idea to project idea… and now we’re working on something new.
Building upon some experimentation that one of our team, Sean, had been doing with the idea of a single-room game, this new project is about a hacker with some big bills to pay. You’re stuck in your single-room apartment, and you need to hack and scam targets to survive.

We’re going to start talking about this project a lot more frequently in the coming weeks. So I implore you to follow us on BlueSky, follow us on YouTube, follow us on Instagram, or TikTok. Send this newsletter to your friends! We want to show you what we’re working on, and also get it into your hands so you can play it and tell us what you think as soon as possible.

SOME RECS FROM US
Just like most other people on this great green earth, we watch and play and read a lot of stuff. Here’s this month’s recommendations from some of us here at Cosmic Soup:
From Sean:
I recently played and beat Ridge Racer Type-4, a racing game that was originally released back in the late 90s for the original PlayStation. It’s a really tightly designed experience, with really fun little story moments that I found quite unexpectedly charming. I’m generally not that interested in racing games, but this one really hooked me.
From Nick:
Chants of Sennaar scratches a very specific puzzle brain itch for me. The game requires you to piece together the meaning of alien languages, using context clues to decipher what individual glyphs represent. There's a real sense of satisfaction, with big "aha moments" as you start to understand the unique grammatical idiosyncrasies and grow more fluent. File under "Obra Dinn" and "Case of the Golden Idol".
That’s it from us this month.
Thank you so much for following and supporting us here at Cosmic Soup. We’ll be back in June with a closer look at our new game (and to tell you about our Steam page, which will be live by then!).
Look after each other!
Talk soon,
